Role Summary:

Senior Applications Eng is responsible for the successful implementation of complex projects requiring systems integration across a range of GE & third party supplier products, services, technologies and solutions for our Mining customers. Primarily focused on a consultative sales approach to power generation & water infrastructure solutions. Provides oversight & coordination of engineers from across different GE businesses. Role will report to the global product manager, GE Mining Solutions.

Essential Responsibilities:

Provide technical leadership for a team of engineers for all product design aspects of Power generation and Water infrastructure solutions in the mining sector

  • Lead and co-ordinate consultative approach to power generation project design with customer and various GE P&L’s.
  • Work with GE’s product Application Engineers to ensure all component designs meet requirements.
  • Support and coordinate with interfacing organizations such as commercial, manufacturing, sourcing, services, global engineering, project management, systems engineering.
  • Support service programs, fulfillment, and New Product Introduction (NPI).
  • Provide strong consulting guidance and contribution to DMP and design to cost projects.
  • Communicate progress to all levels of the organization.
  • Mentor and develop less experienced personnel.


  • Bachelors of Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science.
  • Registered Pr Eng with the Engineering Council of South Africa.
  • At least 10 additional years of design/solutions/integration experience.
  • Track record of designing, engineering, installing & commissioning captive power project/s >$20m.
  • Background in consulting and/or Power system design.
  • Background in diesel / gas power generation, renewable energy and hybrid solutions( Preference Employment Equity).

Must have valid authorization to work full-time without any restriction in the role’s location.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Master’s or PhD degree in Engineering.
  • Background in management consulting or power system design.
  • Strong mechanical design and analytical background.
  • Familiarity with power and water system design and efficiency.
  • Ability to drive projects to completion.
  • Experience in compiling Bankable Feasibility Studies.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to speak French is desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization and external customers.
  • Track record of working on projects in Central and/or West Africa as well as Southern Africa.
